Create Contests

Start a new contest with just few simple steps. Motivator lets you create pre-defined contests in just a few seconds.

Create a new contest from existing KPIs

  1. Click Action Menu icon [...] of the KPI or target and select Create Contest from this KPI/Target.
    OR
    Click +CONTESTS at the top and select the existing KPI you’d like to add from the dropdown.

  2. You will be directed to the Review screen. You can edit and add the following information by clicking on the item or selecting from the submenu of the CONTEST button at the top:

    • Name: Change the contest name
    • Description: Add a description of the contest
    • Formula: Select the formula to apply to your behaviors.
      • Sum: Sum of records created or values of a numeric field in a CRM record over time.
      • Average: Computes the average value of a numeric field in a CRM record over time.
      • Rate/Ratio: Computes the ratio of two metrics over time.
    • Behaviors: Behaviors define the CRM activities you’d like to track or motivate. Learn more about behaviors here.
    • Objective: Set whether the objective is to Increase or Decrease points.
    • Participants: All contestants are considered participants. You can involve the organization as a whole, as individuals, or as teams.
      • Company: Involve the whole organization in the contest.
      • Individuals: Create contests between individuals. Individually select the required participants by using the Add button.
      • Teams: Group your individual employees into teams and create contests between them. Manage your teams here.
    • Observers: Observers can follow the progress of contests without participating in them. Observers cannot be added to a contest if everyone in the company is a participant.
    • Prizes: Set prizes to add excitement to your contests.
    • Duration: Input the contest start and end dates in their respective fields. Use the tickers  and dropdown menu  to select the date and time.  If you want to publish contests after the stipulated finish time, check the option at the bottom of the page.
    • Notifications: Provide notifications to engage your contestants and keep them updated. Set the preferences to send notifications before the contest starts, daily status, and/or when the top three leaders change during the contest homestretch. It is considered as a contest homestretch when it exceeds the remaining 20% days of the duration of that contest.  To disable all email notifications, click here.

Create a new contest from scratch

  1. Click +CONTESTS at the top and select New Contest.
  2. Click CREATE A CONTEST FROM SCRATCH.
  3. Select the formula you'd like to use for your contest. There are three formulas to choose from:
    • Sum: Sum of records created or values of a numeric field in a CRM record over time.
    • Average: Computes the average value of a numeric field in a CRM record over time.
    • Rate/Ratio: Computes the ratio of two metrics over time.
  4. Click ADD BEHAVIOR to define the CRM activities for this contest. Learn more about behaviors here. The number of behaviors you can add depends on the formula which you have selected.
    • Sum: Add as many behaviors as you want.
    • Average: Add one behavior with CRM module containing numeric fields.
    • Rate/Ratio: Add up to two behaviors.
  5. Select whether your goal is to Increase or Decrease points.
  6. Select Click to set a shared target for all participants of this contest to enter an aggregate point goal for all participants in the contest.
  7. Click NEXT.
  8. Follow the guide to define ParticipantsObserversPrizes, and Name of this contest.
  9. Review your settings, and click SAVE.

Create a new contest from existing contest (clone)

  1. Click +CONTESTS at the navigation bar on top and select New Contest.
  2. Click CLONE FROM AN EXISTING CONTEST and select the contest you want to copy.
  3. Edit and add the information in Review screen as necessary.
  4. Review your settings and click SAVE.

Module-neutral contests

You can also create contests such as "Generate More Sales", "Close More Sales", or "Move Sales Forward" which are not based on creating or modifying the Modules.
