Format a Shape

Shapes in your presentation can be made more realistic and fun using various formatting options such as border style, fill color, reflection/shadow effects, and more. These features will stand out during the slideshow, helping you emphasize and enhance the ideas in your presentation. 

Apply shape style

By using a shape styles, you can save time and quickly apply your preferred colors to your shapes.

To apply a shape style,
1. Select the shape on the slide.
You will see the FORMAT mode with shape formatting options on the right pane.



2. Go to Shape tab within the pane and click More... to see a list of all shape styles along with the preset color.
Preset colors will depend on the colors that are part of your current theme.



3. Choose your desired preset color and style from the list.
The chosen color will be applied to your shape and can be changed whenever required.


Apply shape fill

Fill your shape with the desired solid color or texture and create a unique feel to your shapes that draw the eye of your audience. 
 
To change the shape fill color,
1. Select the shape that you want to fill color.
You will see the FORMAT mode with shape formatting options on the right pane.


 
2. Click the Fill dropdown and choose the type of fill you want to apply.
There are four types of background fills: Solid Fill, Gradient Fill, Picture Fill and Pattern Fill.
  • Choosing a Solid Fill applies a single color uniformly within the whole shape. 
  • Choosing a Gradient Fill applies a continuous blend of two or more different colors. Choose the color of gradient you want to apply from the top band and further select a lighter or darker shade of it in the gallery.
     
  • Choosing a Picture Fill applies a picture, pattern, or a texture as a shape fill. Choose a pattern from this gallery or add your own picture as background using the "Image" icon at the top of the window.
  • Choosing a Pattern Fill applies a pattern as a shape fill. Choose a pattern from this gallery and customize the foreground and background shades. 
3. The chosen fill will be applied to the shape.
If you want to remove the fill applied to your shape, select None from the Fill dropdown.

Apply shape effect

A shape can be made more interesting and eye catching when you add effects such as mirror images, border colors, and 2D shadow. Customize and experiment with each effect to bring out the look you want for your shape. 
 
To apply a shape effect,
1. Select the shape to apply an effect.
You will see the FORMAT mode with shape formatting options on the right pane.


 
2. Choose the type of effect for your shape. There are three types of shape effects:
  • Choosing a Stroke effect applies a border or outline to the shape and improves its emphasis on the slide.
  • Choosing a Shadow effect drops a shadow beneath the shape and helps bring a sense of realism to it on the slide.
  • Choosing a Reflection effect creates a reflection beneath the original shape with styles such as a semi-transparent duplication of the original shape, a water or glass reflection, or a half-shadow blurred effect. You can apply multiple effects to the same shape on a slide.
     
Reset a shape 
Undo the changes you’ve made to your shape to reset them back to its original shape property or effect. To do this, select the shape and click the Reset button in the right pane. The edited shape will return to the original shape you added to the slide.

Edit shape points

Change the default appearance of a shape on the slide to make a completely new and complex shape by altering the Shape Points. Editing the shape points involves dragging the handles and edges of the shape to add a new curve or form a completely new shape from the original shape.
 
To edit shape points,
1. Select the shape on the slide.
You will see the FORMAT mode with shape formatting options on the right pane. Any shape you add comes with an outline and blue colored control points at the corners and edges of the shape. 



2. Click Edit Points within the pane.
You will see the control points change into blue colored dots on the corners of the selected shape.



3. Do any of the following to edit shape points:
  • To add a point, click the outline of the shape in the location where you want to add a new point. A new blue colored dot with two control points in green along each side will appear on the outline. The control points lets you add or change  the curve of that shape. 

  • To create a curve, click and drag the dot or the control points in green along the outline of the shape. You can also twist the control points to get the required curve shape. The longer you drag, the wider the curve is. 

  • To move a point, click on a specific point on the shape and move it to a desired location in the slide. Once done editing your shape points, click anywhere on the slide to exit.

  • To delete a point, select the point and press Delete on your Keyboard.
