You can get started to track page visits in your websites by setting up the tracking code, inserting permission banners, choosing an alias domain, and setting up internal traffic filters. These factors are important when you track page visits and Zoho MarketingHub's web assistant helps you with the features below.
Banners
While tracking visitor activities in your website, it's important that you let them know you are tracking, and give them an option if they don't want you to track their activities. You can do this by adding information banners on your webpages.
To add banners:
- From the Navigation toolbar select the Web assistant tab and choose Websites.
- Select your domain.
- Select the Setup subtab.
- Navigate to the Banners section. You will be provided with a default banner which you can edit by clicking the Edit icon.
You can customize the following:
- Banner content
- Button content
- Banner content font, size and color
- Button content font, size and color and the button padding
- Click Save.
You can enable or disable the banner whenever you want.
Tracking code
Under this section of the setup, you will find the tracking code you need to embed in your webpages you want to track. Copy this code into the <head> section of your pages to start tracking the visits to the page.
Alias domains
You can make a domain alias to a main domain. When a domain is made alias to another, tracking of the alias domain will be done under the main domain. In other words, the tracking reports of the alias domain will be merged with the main domain's tracking reports.
To add alias domains:
- From the Navigation toolbar select the Web assistant tab and choose Websites.
- Select your domain.
- Select the Setup subtab.
- Navigate to the Alias domains section and click Add.
- Enter the alias domain.
You can add a maximum of three alias domains.
For the alias domains, you will have to embed the tracking code generated for the main domain.
Website traffic filters
You can disable site tracking for visitors from certain IP addresses or countries by setting up filters. These filters can be used to exclude the traffic from your own organization.
To create filters:
- From the Navigation toolbar select the Web assistant tab and choose Websites.
- Select your domain.
- Select the Setup subtab.
- Navigate to the Filters section and click Create filter.
- Give your filter a name.
Choose from the following options:
- Create filter based on IP addresses - Enter the IP address or the range of addresses you want to exclude.
- Create filter based on country - Select the country you want to exclude.
- Click Activate.
