Organizations sometimes perform a predefined set of operations and workflows that will remain unchanged. It's difficult to create a similar project with the same set of work items 'n' number of times. This is where project templates come into play - They are a predefined set of configured projects. 

Launching a product is no cakewalk—it requires a lot of planning. The process is predefined for any product launch in the software industry. You can create a standard template to use while you are developing a new product.

 

Step  1:  Create a template without cloning any project to it. 

Step  2: Set up your project configuration and add custom work item types, statuses, and priorities. 

Step  3: Start adding relevant sprints and work items that are required to build a new product. 

For example, Helen creates all the possible sprints that she can run while developing a product. She lists them all in the template that she created. Here's a gist of all the basic sprints that are required for a product launch. 

Step  4 :  Set the Start After and Duration fields to the work items and sprints in the template. 

Step  5 : Create a new project and clone this template to the project. All the work items and sprints are successfully cloned to the new project.
