Troubleshooting errors in authenticating a Business Profile to a Facebook Page

To authorize a Facebook account that's connected to your Instagram Profile, you need to have an Instagram Business Profile. Instagram Business Profiles are authenticated with the Facebook Page they are connected with, and it is likely that you are running into this problem because your Instagram Business Profile is not properly connected with your Facebook Page. This can also happen if Page Admin roles or account credentials were changed.

Once you have authorized your Instagram Business Profile with a Facebook Page, you can access features like Direct Publishing, commenting, and creating hashtag search columns on Zoho Social. Read more about why Facebook requires you to do this.

Here are some pointers that can help, when you come across a screen that says "set up business profile”:

1. Make sure that you’ve switched to an Instagram Business account from your Instagram app.

2. Authenticate your Business Profile with an associated Facebook Page.

Follow these steps to check whether the right Facebook Page is connected with your Instagram app.
  1. From your Instagram mobile app, go to your profile by tapping  (bottom-right)
  2. Click Edit Profile, and under Business Information → your Facebook Page should be listed.
  3. Else, please click on Page and connect the right Facebook Page.

It is also likely that you are running into this problem because your Instagram Business Profile is not properly connected with your Facebook Page. Follow these steps to troubleshoot errors in authenticating your Business Profile to the right Facebook Page:
  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Go to your profile
  3. Tap on the Menu ☰ button at the top-right.
  4. Go to Settings.
  5. Tap Account
  6. Select Linked Accounts.
  7. If you see your Facebook Page listed there, please make sure that you have the Admin Role on the Facebook Page that is connected to your Instagram account, else click Unlink and log out of your Facebook app from your device.

To check if you have the right permissions on your Facebook Page, follow these steps:
  1. Go to Facebook and select the Page that is connected to your Instagram account.
  2. Go to Settings at the top of the Page and then click Page roles.
  3. If you find yourself not the Admin of the page, we suggest you to ask your Page owner to change your role. Alternatively, you can ask your Page Admin to re-authenticate the Facebook Page on Zoho Social.
If you don’t see your Facebook Page listed there, that is very likely the reason you’re seeing the error. You’ll then need to switch your Instagram account back to a Personal Profile and then reconvert it to a Business Profile, and link it to the right Facebook Page this time.

  • Go to your profile by tapping
  • Tap on the Menu ☰ button at the top-right.
  • Tap Settings at the bottom-right.
  • Tap Switch Back to Personal Account (under Business Settings).
  • In the window that appears, tap Switch Back to confirm your changes.
  • In the same Settings screen on your Instagram mobile app, click on Switch to Business Account.
  • Update your Business information and proceed to login with your Facebook account and choose the right Facebook Page.
  • Review your contact information and proceed to Save/Submit.
  • Next, retry authorizing the Facebook Page connected to the Business Profile.
In case the above steps have failed to resolve the problem— it's possible that Zoho Social does not have page permissions (on Facebook) to finish setting up direct publishing.

4. Update Page permissions for Zoho Social on Facebook:
  1. Log in to Facebook and access Business Integrations.
  2. Click on the check-box next to Zoho Social and select Remove.
  3. You will then see a pop up asking if you'd also like to "Also delete all posts, photos and videos..". Please do not tick this option.
  4. Go to your Social dashboard, you'll see an alert under Brand Health "Oops! Your Facebook Page needs to be reconnected."
  5. Click on Reconnect and proceed to reconnect Facebook on Zoho Social.
  6. You'll see a pop up appear, asking you to confirm some permissions. On this screen, click Choose What You Allow.
  7. On the next screen, make sure the Facebook Page that’s connected with your Instagram Profile has a tick in all the sections—Manage your Pages, Publish as Pages, etc.
